Tactical Tourniquet hemostasis is a simple and effective method for emergency treatment of severe bleeding in the limbs. It achieves the purpose of hemostasis by compressing blood vessels to block blood flow.

However. if used improperly or for too long, a tourniquet can cause ischemia and necrosis of the distal limb, leading to disability. Therefore, a tourniquet should only be applied when the bleeding is severe and cannot be stopped by other methods.

Combat tourniquet is best to use a rubber band or rubber tube for a tourniquet. It is not advisable to use non-elastic bands such as cloth tapes or wires. The binding position should be above the wound (near the heart end),

and as close as possible to the wound. The upper 1/3 of the upper arm and the upper middle part of the thigh are preferred.

Tourniquet should not be applied to the lower leg and forearm because there are two bones in these areas and the blood vessels run exactly between the two bones.

Applying a tourniquet will not compress the blood vessels. A tourniquet should not be applied to the middle one-third of the upper arm either, as it may cause nerve damage and lead to arm paralysis.
